Stones in the gallbladder: what is the danger?

Pain in the abdomen or in the right hypochondrium is a fairly common phenomenon. The pains that appear, then disappear, and the person ceases to attach importance to this. Meanwhile, sudden pain sensations in the center or the right upper abdomen may be signs of stomach formation in the gallbladder.
Why stones are formed in the gall bladder
Gallstones or gallstones often bother women than men. Stones are formed by solidifying enzymes that are contained in the gall bladder: these enzymes help to digest and digest food. Women are more likely to suffer from gallstone disease, because conditions such as pregnancy, hormonal failures and changes, the use of hormonal contraceptives lead to stagnation of bile and increase the risk of stones.

The stones in the gallbladder can be quite tiny, like sand, and can be in size up to 5 cm. For a long time, the gallstone disease runs asymptomatic and often makes itself felt by bile colic when the stone starts to move. Often bile colic provokes the intake of fatty food, since the gall bladder begins to sharply decrease. Then the stone gets stuck in the duct, causing a sharp pain in the right side of the abdomen, under the edges.
What problems can lead to stones in the gallbladder
As already mentioned, a stone in the bile can cause an attack of bile colic. A stomped stone in the bile duct can push into the intestine or go back to the gallbladder. A person may experience pain for several minutes or hours: when the stone passes from the gallbladder or hits it back, the pain stops. If a stone is stuck and a person is experiencing severe pain, then it is necessary to urgently hospitalize him.

Also, a small stone stuck in the bile duct may not cause severe pain, but lead to pancreatitis – inflammation of the pancreas and the development of jaundice. The presence of stones in the gall bladder leads to inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis), infection in the bile ducts (cholangitis) and inflammatory processes in the intestine.
Diagnosis and treatment of gallstone disease
The earlier the stones have been found in the gall bladder and the smaller their diameter. The more likely it is to cure the disease without surgical intervention. An uncomplicated gallstone disease can be treated by a gastroenterologist. To make a diagnosis, it is necessary to make an ultrasound of the abdominal cavity. And in more difficult situations – an X-ray examination with the introduction of a contrast agent, which is given intravenously or through the mouth.

For the crushing of stones, both special medications and the method of shock wave cholelithotripsy are used. Also, the doctor prescribes antispasmodics, painkillers, special therapeutic physical training, a diet of physiotherapy and phytotherapy. In order to avoid the formation of stones in the gall bladder, it is important to eat properly, avoid bile stagnation: this will help physical activity. The formation of stones is facilitated by greasy and fried food, so it is necessary to refuse such dishes especially fast food. If there is a hereditary predisposition to the formation of stones or you take hormonal drugs, it is important to undergo prophylactic examinations and ultrasound diagnostics at least 1 time a year.
