Abdominal pain in a child is a common occurrence with which almost every parent faces one hundred percent. It can have many different reasons: from a banal constipation to severe illness. So, why can a stomach in your baby be sick, and what should parents do?
Causes of abdominal pain in a child
The most likely causes of abdominal pain in a child include the following:
Constipation. This is perhaps the most common cause of abdominal pain in children, which may be due to malnutrition, individual body features, inadequate fluid intake, and even psychological factors. So, if the child is ill, he should be remembered when the last time there was a bowel movement.
Intestinal infection. If pain in the abdomen is subsequently accompanied by diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, high body temperature, it is probably a case of intestinal infection.
Appendicitis. Inflammation of the appendix is another possible cause of abdominal pain. In this case, the pain can be localized both in the right side, and in the center of the abdomen, in the area of the navel.
Colic in babies. This is one of the most common causes of abdominal pain in children under the age of 3 months.
Vermin. Flabby – frequent “guests” of the child’s body. Infection occurs in children’s collectives, on sites, in sandboxes. If the baby is sluggish, her abdominal cramps are periodically sick, there is a slight increase in body temperature, nausea, sometimes vomiting, diarrhea or, conversely, fastening, she is losing weight, eating badly, it is very likely that it is a case of wool infestation.
Diseases of the genitourinary system. Often children are diagnosed with bladder infection, which can cause abdominal pain, fever.
Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Abdominal pain causes gastritis, stomach ulcers and duodenal ulcers. You may need to consult a gastroenterologist, especially if the pain is directly related to food intake or the feeling of hunger in a child.
Kidney disease If the stomach is sore to the left under the edges, the child has a weakness, difficulty in urination, it can signal problems with the work of the kidneys.
The following external factors may also affect the development of abdominal pain in a child:
Use of stale, poor quality or improperly cooked food.
Non-compliance with the rules of personal hygiene.
Treatment with certain medications, the side effect of which may be the appearance of abdominal pain.
Stress, nervous tension, change in the usual rhythm of life (for example, the beginning of a visit to a kindergarten, a new school, moving).
Injuries to the abdominal cavity.
What to do if your baby has a stomach ache?
Of course, abdominal pain in a child is an occasion for parents to pay more attention to her condition. If it is clearly not connected with congestion or banal overeating, does not expire, it has an anaphylacious nature, it is better to seek medical help. Particular concern is given to situations where other symptoms, such as fever, diarrhea, vomiting, general weakness, are attached to abdominal pain. Also more dangerous is abdominal pain, which is localized not in the area of the navel, but on the left, right or bottom of the abdomen.
When a baby has a stomach ache:
Call a doctor or seek medical advice on your own.
Do not give analgesics (they can blunt pain, which will result in missing critical moment and lost precious time, for example, with appendicitis, which is extremely dangerous to the child’s life).
Do not press on the stomach, you can only pat you.
Every 5-10 minutes give the baby to drink small portions of the liquid (for tea or table spoon, as it turns out, but do it systematically).
Do not warm the place of pain, because in some conditions it can be categorically contraindicated.
In general, abdominal pain in a child may be very different in intensity, periodicity, localization. It can be caused by various causes, so responsible parents should do their best to provide the child with competent help.
