Influenza: prognosis, prevention and treatment features

The period of the epidemic of influenza and ARVI is not far off. In this season, according to forecasts of the Influenza Center and ARVI of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (MOH), Ukrainians will attack three strains of the influenza virus, with one of which we will face for the first time. That is, the population still does not have immunity to this virus. How to avoid the incidence of influenza and SARS, to strengthen immunity, whether it is necessary to vaccinate against influenza and what are the main mistakes of treatment of the disease? Let’s understand.
Flu Prevention: Do I need to do a vaccine?
In the epidemiological season 2017/2018 in Ukraine, it is expected that the strains of influenza A group Hong Kong (H3N2), Group В “Phuket” and “Brisbane”, which are already familiar to Ukrainians. And also the new “Michigan” influenza for us. Doctors note the dangers of the “Michigan” influenza virus, as the immune system has not yet developed for this type of virus. The massive incidence of influenza and ARVI MH forecasts in early December and in January of the following year. Therefore, it’s time to give as much attention to the prevention of colds.

The most reliable way to protect themselves from influenza is by doctors as a vaccine. The vaccine will protect against most strains of the virus, and in the case of a virus of another strain of influenza or ARVI, will make the course of the disease easy, will help to avoid complications. Vaccination against influenza is not obligatory in Ukraine, so whether to make vaccinations or not is a personal choice of everyone. If you decide to get flu from the flu, then this should be done before the epidemic begins, being completely healthy and having no contraindications. All the nuances of vaccination should be communicated by your family doctor, therapist or pediatrician, who must inspect the person before performing the vaccination. Physicians are especially recommended to be vaccinated against influenza by those in high-risk groups:
young children (except for infants up to 6 months)
pregnant women and people with chronic diseases (asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular ailments)
elderly population
medical staff, as well as persons who are constantly in contact with a large number of people (teachers, educators, service workers).
Methods of nonspecific prevention of influenza and ARVI
The basis for the prevention of any illness is a healthy lifestyle. Compliance with the sleep and rest regimen, the addition of foods rich in vitamins A and C (carrots, pumpkins, citrus fruits, kiwi, sauerkraut), hardening, the reception of vitamin complexes, the abandonment of bad habits will help to strengthen the body’s protective forces. Avoid places of mass accumulation of people , and in the case of frequent trips by public transport or attending mass events, do not forget to wash your hands more often with soap.

Do not touch the face with your hands, often do a wet cleaning of the premises, try not to overcooil, so as not to undermine the immunity and not reduce the resistance of the body to infections. An important moment in the prevention of respiratory diseases, including influenza, is the washing of the nasal cavity with special sprays or a solution of sea salt. This should be done after returning from the street to wash away bacteria and viruses from the nasal mucosa.
What to do if ill: how to prevent the development of complications
If you have the first symptoms of a cold or a flu – a cough, a runny nose, a sore throat, a headache, a fever, go to bed and drink more liquid to remove toxins from the body. Even if there is no temperature, keep the bed rest anyway: the weakened body must defeat the infection, and if you are going to the street in such a state, then you are at the same risk of getting sick even more, even with the attached complications – bronchitis, otitis, or sinusitis, etc. d.

Be sure to show the doctor: call the house or, if possible, visit the clinic by taxi or private motor transport. Do not practice self-healing and remember that antibiotics do not help get rid of viruses and are prescribed only when bacterial infection and only a specialist! Also take anti-viral drugs as directed by a doctor, do not give up treatment if it is better and follow all the recommendations of the specialist!
